Hallo y'all.

Most of you will already know that Avenue B is both the official GB forum and at the same time totally independent (I said no when Sony asked to integrate it into their new site for the band because I wanted it to stay separate to the empire).

Because of this, all the running costs come out of my own pocket and I've never really come up with a foolproof (and totally separatist) way of funding it. Well, until now, anyway...

Some of you will be aware of the fact I take a lot of photos of the band at gigs. If I printed a selection of high-quality postcards, packaged them up all nice into sets of ten and sold them for a really reasonable price, would you guys be tempted into buying them? I was thinking payment could just be handled through Paypal since lots of people use that, although suggestions for better solutions would be welcome.

I just want to throw this idea out there. Let me know your thoughts. Oh, and if you wanted to sample the product, my Flickr collection of GB photos is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/geshmally/collections/72157604454173358/

I would totally buy them! Would it be a random mix or do we pick and choose?

It would be a random mix... I couldn't afford the out-lay to get personalised sets done.

Alison
Sounds an excellent idea - sort of like how Big Issue got started. ;-)

But seriously make sure you are making enough money for your time for looking after the forum and the time you need to arrange the prints. How much are you thinking of selling them for? You'll need to include postage - possibly to all over the world - unless the company you are using can do this for you? Last thing you need to do is to be trundling to the post office every couple of days. Maybe the order form could have an extra donation element as well?

We could collect the set and swap doublers and trade cards for the all exclusive and rare postcards.[/b]

I'd love to buy some pictures - but would be happy to just make a donation as well.

A fiver, maybe. Depends on how much they cost to get done, to be honest, but I don't want to price them at more than a fiver for a pack of ten.

To be honest, working out postage and getting things out isn't a big deal. I'm forever selling old CDs and DVDs to make a little extra cash (especially as it gets closer to Christmas), so I'm used to looking up postage costs and trundling up and down the hill to the Post Office on my lunch break. It's good exercise. Wink

It's a lovely suggestion, and I've thrown around the idea of a dollar/quid donation thing in the past, but I think I like the idea of this arty bake sale better - it feels less like passing a cap around with a sad look on my face.

Haha! GOT, GOT, SWAP!

I'm sitting in a presentation at a conference right now and just laughed out loud. Literally. That is fantastic.

And I'm totally in for buying postcards! I'd buy several sets and make a bit frame out of them or something. I tried taking pics at the Eugene and Portland, Ore. shows, but they turned out crap. So getting my hands on some tangible would be awesome Smile You rock for doing all this!

Must be a different generation thing - I was wondering if there would be a stick of chewing gum included in the packs.

I said the exact same thing to my boyfriend when I saw Cocteau's picture. We're definitely of a different generation when you think Garbage Pail Kids and Paninii books before Pokemon. Wink

But if we have gum, it has to be stale and not really chewable.

Hooray, I'm *this* close to finalising the whole project. The designs look lovely, the print quote is... only slightly daunting, and I'm still running hard and fast on pure optimism. GO GO GO!

I am sorry to report, however, that Nadia's beautiful picture of Eugene didn't make a cut. Sorry, Nadia. Sorry, Avenue B. *removes flat cap out of respect*

The finished product should be ready in about two weeks (here's hoping). Very Happy

How to buy your amazing set of amazing Gogol Bordello postcards to support your amazing forum.

1. Go to http://www.paypal.com and log in.
2. Click the 'Send Money' option at the top of the page.
3. Send it to me, obvs: alison@avenue-b.net is my email on there.
4. Opt to send 7.00 GBP (Great British Pounds) - it will convert it for you.
5. Make sure the 'Purchase of Goods' ticky box is ticked
6. Click 'continue'
7. The next screen should have your full postal address on it (including zip/post code).
8. BUY BUY BUY!
9. Tell all your friends. Tell everyone you've ever met. Tell the worrrld!

The sets are priced at 7 to include postal costs wherever you may be. All money goes into the Avenue B pot to keep this forum running independently as long as people visit it. Smile

If you have any problem with the payment method above, please contact me. If you're nervous about sending a virtual stranger your cash, you can hang on and buy sets through a 'Buy it Now' eBay auction I'll be setting up very soon.

Anyone going to the upcoming Euro tour will be able to buy these at *selected* European dates. If you want a set and would rather hang on to get one at the merch stand, PM me to check if they'll be on sale at your show.

Things you should know:

- This set has been approved for sale by Eugene and the GB Powers That Be, so it's 100% legit.
- They are bloody nice quality, quite frankly. I spent ages choosing the card and checking the proofs, and I'm still impressed at how professional the finished product is.
- This is (currently) a limited run. Once these sets are gone, they're gone. For now, at least. I reserve the right to change my mind. Wink
- Buying postcards has long been a source of instant good karma*.

If you have any questions whatsoever, please contact me via PM or my email (alison@avenue-b.net).

*TRUE FACT.

Thanks to everyone who has already placed an order! You're helping me to breathe a little easier. Wink

For those who would rather do it this way, I've set up an eBay page to buy sets.
