a game me and my (imaginary) friends like to play.
usually in the pub and usually limited to pulp fiction, clint eastwood and the likes.
however, today i managed to be totally subversive and said to my trainee whilst we were sitting on the roof terrace eating a sandwich...
"do you mind if i smoke while you eat".

i managed to be subversive, ironic and sexist all at the same time and not get caught. (im safe, shes far too young and innocent to get the reference. i hope...)

i do this a lot. not just films--shows, too. especially "daria". here's an example:

principal: "ms. morgendorffer, where do you think you're going?"
daria: "slowly insane. but i need to pop in at home first."

i use this when i'm on my way somewhere and someone asks where i'm going. it usually gets a laugh and relieves the stress i'm usually under. lol

There should definitely be some kind of official orienteering game out of this. We should compile a list of 20 movie quotes and have 24 hours to try and get them all into our daily conversations.

ah but she is truly lucky to have me as her supervisor. once she qualifies she has ahead of her a working life full of socially inept, mildly autistic, selfish, greedy, risk averse, impotent, frustrated, spiteful, malicious, bored and boring, neurotic, ocd lawyers. But they will never be able to take away the memory of me and the knowledge that out there there are a few lawyers who break the mould and therein lies the hope that one day she will again cross pathes with one. so perdita dear, you are wrong to pity her.

your blurb bores me.

It's kind of ... pathetic .... to use the subordinacy, youth and femaleness of a colleague to privately bolster your own OMG ironically sexist superior cultural knowledge, and then come and brag about how 'subersive' you are on an internet forum.

I dunno, I have a staff of five men, one woman, plus temps, interns, and project contractors, and i haven't yet had to dredge up cultural references that are individually offensive to each of their identities, in order to feel good about myself on a lunch break.

Hey, I don't make the cyber rules!

Can one eat cyber popcorn whilst engaged in a 'heated debate' or does it not apply to participants?

Dammit, atlas wins with his ironic humility. I will have to save my feminist fury for another day.

Only if 'I'm too old for this shit!' is on there. Or should we be reaching for more obscure ones?

As for Perdita and atlas, I just thought you guys were quoting wordy chunks out of some movie I haven't seen. I don't think I'm 'getting' this.

Atlas was being unpleasant.
Perdita picked him up on it.
Atlas admitted defeat. I think.

I've met you in real life. You were really, really fun to hang out with.

And then you think it's okay refer to the women on this thread as 'girlies'?

*sighs*

Don't start trolling just for larks. You're better than that.

ok i will stop trolling for larks because i accept that it can be difficult for the reader to ascertain whether said trolling is serious or totally tongue in cheek.

There's less serious and then there's stuff that actually makes people feel uncomfortable, like casual sexism. That kind of thing turns fun into potential flamewar territory. Flamey no fun. (Unless it's a noob who can't handle being disagreed with. I miss Greg.)

Therein most certainly lies the problem.

Back to the thread, what what?

Well look at it! First we're talking about quoting films, then communication is based purely on quoting, then some shit happens, and Oi gets some popcorn?

Also, I like to quote the Darjeeling Limited, especially when I get to a station. "That's my train" *imagines running to catch train in slow motion to music by The Kinks*

yes, but most people would just look at you and think "why is she telling me this?"...

i also have a bad habit of saying out loud and repetatively "i scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream" every time i take my daughters for ice cream at marine ices. oddly theyve gone off ice cream. Confused
