I'm going to be taking part in the Great North Swim on 4th September for an excellent charity called Open Country which helps disabled people access the countryside with walks, tanden bike rides, canal trips etc. If anyone has any spare cash (unlikely I know in these times) I would be very grateful for any donations. The Great North Swim is a one mile swim on Windermere in the Lake District and it's likely to be cold! I've never done anything like this before and don't really know what I've let myself in for. Shocked

Details of how to donate and a link to Open Country can be found here:

Thanks
Jackie

I don't get paid till the 20th, but after that I'll happily contribute. Post a reminder later in the month or PM me!

Just bumping my thread up. I've just about thawed out after a photo shoot in the local river. See the result of that on my fundraising page.

Thanks for the reminder! I've been really busy the last week so I'm a little late in contributing. And sorry it isn't much - the UK's doing naff all for Pakistan right now and I had to split what I had spare. Still, hope it helps your cause!

Thanks Alison, that's lovely of you. Fundraising is going really well - I'm so pleased at how generous people are being. It puts the pressure on though, I've realised I can't back out now! The water temperature in Windermere at the moment is 18 degrees, which I'm trying to convince myself won't be too cold.

The Great North Swim was cancelled because of toxic algae in the water Sad

So I'm going to do the Great Salford Swim instead in Salford Quays on 26th September. Not quite as scenic as Windermere, but it's a similar one mile open water swim.

I might use that in my everyday life.

"Why are you late for work?"
"Toxic algae. Don't ask."

I completed the Great Salford Swim yesterday - in one hour and 13 seconds and came in at number 1302 out of about 2000 swimmers, so I was very pleased with that. Very Happy The water temperature was 14 degrees, so it was pretty cold.
